VMTurbo, the leading provider of intelligent workload management software for cloud and virtualized environments, today announced that the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), an acclaimed specialist university with an international intake and a global reach, is using VMTurbo Operations Manager to help ensure applications, infrastructure and operational teams are utilized as efficiently and effectively as possible.
“At the LSE, we have a fundamental belief in economics and to see VMTurbo apply the same principles in their approach to automating control across virtualized data centers made them a natural fit,” said Danny Simpson, systems specialist for IT services at LSE. “VMTurbo Operations Manager has given us the ability to better dictate how infrastructure resources are allocated to applications and workloads managed by our application and web teams. The market-based approach utilized in their analytic model automates the decision-making process across our virtual environment and has dramatically improved our ability to ensure performance, increase utilization and reduce operating costs.”
Running a consolidated data center that services all departmental IT requirements, the LSE consists of HP Blade servers for hosts and HP EVA and MSA storage. Currently, the LSE runs more than 80% of the environment on VMware vSphere and encompasses 3 clusters, 20 physical hosts, 564 virtual machines and approximately 38 Terabytes of storage.
With an increased number of virtualized servers inhabiting their environment, the LSE recognized that their existing tools failed to provide the intelligence necessary to ensure that applications were resourced appropriately. Holonomix, a UK-based VMTurbo partner with an expertise in virtualization and IT management, introduced LSE to VMTurbo Operations Manager as a unique solution to their challenges. By automating control and continuously adjusting resources allocation to optimize utilization and meet SLAs, VMTurbo Operations Manager eases the process of workload management with its patent-pending Economic Scheduling Engine. The solution reduces IT operator and administrative intervention to eliminate manual, time-consuming interpretation of dashboard data, troubleshooting, and trial-and-error remediation. Easy to install and deploy, VMTurbo is designed to provide immediate value and simplify management across any hypervisor environment.
“Virtualized infrastructure and cloud adoption continues to grow at a rapid pace, creating a need to change the operational approach to automate and control these complex environments,” said Andrew Mallaband, managing director for VMTurbo in the United Kingdom. “Enlightened customers, such as the LSE, are embracing our innovative approach to ensure performance, automate resource allocation, and improve utilization across applications and infrastructure alike.”
